Ellie Blamires:
Flute
Ellie enjoys a diverse freelance career, appearing worldwide with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist. She performs regularly with many of the country’s leading orchestras, appearing as Guest Principal Flute with the Philharmonia, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and Welsh National Opera among others. Her career highlights so far have included performances at Carnegie Hall and the BBC Proms with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ellie has a particular interest in performing new music. She has been involved in the commissioning of several new works and has performed frequently at Folkestone New Music, most recently at the 2026 Sacconi Chamber Music Festival. Ellie has worked with composers including Cheryl-Frances Hoad and Ben Nobuto, and gave the premiere of Colin Matthews’ ‘Five Untitled Pieces’ for Flute and Piccolo in 2023. In 2025 she performed Luciano Berio’s Sequenza for Flute at the Aldeburgh Festival on three occasions.
Chamber music is central to Ellie’s career. As a founding member of wind quintet Ensemble Renard, she has facilitated a number of commissions, recordings and high profile performances. Together, the ensemble has accumulated a number of accolades, including the 2025 Royal Philharmonic Society Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award. They have also been made City Music Foundation Artists and Countess of Munster/YCAT directory artists.
Ellie read Music at New College, Oxford, before completing a Master’s at the Royal Academy of Music, where her studies were generously supported by the Academy’s Harold Alcock Wrigley scholarship, Help Musicians UK and the Countess of Munster Trust. She received further orchestral training as a member of Southbank Sinfonia and Philharmonia MMSF Fellow.
